Security Procedures and TSA Checking at the Sunport

The Albuquerque International Sunport reminds all the passengers not to leave bags unattended, as they will be seized by the Albuquerque Aviation Police that can destroy the item. If there is an unattended bag or item, passengers should report to the airport personnel.

Passengers should be aware that only those with tickets or with airline-approved documentation are allowed beyond the security checkpoint area. Air travelers with ticketless travel or with e-tickets must confirm with their airline the documents that they need at the checkpoint.

There are some restrictions regarding the passengers’ carry-on bags. TSA prohibits flammable items, explosive materials, and other hazardous materials in checked baggage. Things such as liquids, gels, aerosols, and similar objects, must be placed in containers of no more than 3.4 ounces. Such type of belongings should be set in a one-quart- zip-top plastic bag and then placed in a screening bin for checking. Electronic devices, laptops, computers, etc. should be put in a separate screening bin. Besides, passengers need to keep metal-made objects (e.g., keys, coins, etc.) in a carry-on bag. Be aware that shoes, belts, and jackets should be removed and placed in a screening bin.

Legal Documents / Real ID

The Real ID will be enforced on October 1, 2020. After the deadline, all states must be issuing with Real ID-compliant licenses or I.D. cards, and also individuals, all passengers must have visited the driver’s licensing agency in their countries to obtain the Real ID-compliant card. Another acceptable alternative is to attain a U.S. passport (for those air travelers who need to fly on commercial aircraft or/and federal access facilities).

New Mexico is acquiescent with the Real ID. Federal agencies at the Sunport can accept identification cards and driver’s licenses from New Mexico.
